  • Attention Anxiety Sufferers! Is Zoloft Worth the Risk?
    By: DAMIAN RAY

The antidepressant Zoloft, used typically for those victims of depression, is now often times prescribed to those suffering from anxiety.

Anxiety victims should be leery of the drug, though, due to its somewhat harmful reputation.

Insomnia, dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, lack of libido, and possible weight gain are all possible side effects of Zoloft.

Adolescents and senior citizens who take Zoloft have often times shown signs of Mania and suicidal thoughts.

Some side effects may prove to be too severe, and the patient must be taken off the drug. However, you should never just stop taking Zoloft because you then run the risk of suffering from severe withdrawal.

Suicidal thoughts, as stated before, are a possible side effect of Zoloft, due to this and the allegations of the drugs responsibility in many suicides, it is highly recommended that Zoloft not be taken by adolescents, because this age group is a high risk for suicide.

When someone begins to take Zoloft it is very important to have a member of the family or a doctor watch them, so they can be on the look out for changes in behavior or possible suicidal thoughts or tendencies.

If used for its purpose, in correcting serious clinical depression, Zoloft is a qualified SSRI antidepressant.

Serious side effects are possible with all SSRI antidepressants, but when a doctor is consulted and used any major problems can be evaded.

Yet again, let me state, that teens and other young people should steer clear of Zoloft due to the high risk of suicide.

It is safer to just avoid Zoloft because no reason for the increased suicide risk has been found yet.

With all that in mind, I must say that Zoloft as an antidepressant may work wonders, but I feel as though the risks of the medication are not worth it to someone suffering from GAD (General Anxiety Disorder) or panic attacks.
