- Truck Driver Health Issues

Did you know that truck driving is one of the ten most dangerous jobs in America? Because of countless hours of driving by our nation’s truck drivers and being on our highways and interstates so often, creates a high risk of being involved in accidents. However, the risks are far greater than the obvious ones . . . an irregular work schedule, long periods of just sitting, lifting/bending heavy objects, stress, fatigue and an bad diet will lead to serious health problems.Due to these long periods of driving, many over the road drivers fighting boredom tend to smoke and along with living in a truck and working long hours and receiving improper rest, physical problems do become a major problem for our truck drivers in our nation.
In the United States, 20% of trucking accidents are the result of driver fatigue. Fatigue is also causing disorders such as breathing problems and sleep apnea in many of the drivers. Also, women drivers are not immune to suffering from these same health issues as the males. Actually, women drivers are fighting health issues such as backache, hypertension, migraine, sinus problems and difficulties with their vision. Backaches still come in at the number two position for health problems with truckers. Fatigue still remains as number one.
There are easy steps you can take that will lead to a path of better health:
- Know the signs for a stroke
- Quit Smoking
- Know the signs for a heart attack
- Make healthy fast food choices
- Exercise while out on the road
- Control your blood pressure
