- Acid Reflux Controlled by Taking Ginger Capsules?
- By: Taking Ginger Capsu
"Kim, where are the antacids?" I heard that all too familiar sound. "Your not supposed to take them everyday," I replied. My husband who doesn't even take an aspirin for an occasional headache was popping antacids like they were coming from a pez dispenser. Knowing he would never go to the Doctor to treat his acid reflux disease, I set out to find an alternative remedy.I have always taken herbs, so I decided that is where I'll start. After reading some material on the subject, I narrowed it down to ginger. Ginger is used to settle an upset stomach I reasoned, so why not try that first? We started him off with one 500 mg. capsule. The next day we upped the dosage to 1000 mg before bedtime. After only 2 days,"IT WORKED!" He now takes 1000 mg of ginger every day and he hasn't had any acid break through in over 3 years.
Every individual is different, but we learned that when my husband can taste the ginger a few minutes after swallowing the capsules, that was his correct dose. Once in a great while he may need an extra 500 mg. of ginger, but that is usually after he has eaten a large pasta dinner or too many potato chips. I don't know if taking ginger is right for everyone, but we were fortunate enough to have found an inexpensive, alternative method. It really worked for us and hopefully it will work for you to.
Another great herbal alternative is Konjac root. I'm currently working on my third article describing Konjac root and its benefits. This little known Japanese perennial is an absolute must for weight control and fiber intake. The Konjac root is an inexpensive source of needed fiber.
