Anxiety attacks are quite common in children, but they are often overlooked. Nearly half of the individuals with prepubertal onset of anxiety do not receive treatment for at least 10 years, and recent research suggests that many of these children develop chronic and persistent anxiety as adults. Both pharmacologic and psychotherapeutic treatments are available for children with anxiety disorders and the outcome is good, but since this remains a widely misjudged entity, treatment is only initiated when these children grow and have frequent anxiety attacks.Anxiety disorders in children can range from a simple adjustment disorder to more difficult and debilitating disorders such as panic disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder. If anxiety disorder in a child is not treated in the early stages, it can lead to missed school days or an inability to finish school, impaired relations with peers and low self-esteem.
Causes
Causes of anxiety attacks, in which the sufferer suddenly feels a great trembling fear without warning, are varied. Anxiety attacks find their causes rooted in psychodynamic, behavioral and spiritual causes. This is further evidenced by increased external and internal stresses. When stresses exceed beyond a level that one can normally cope up with, anxiety results.
There are many biological factors that are known as what causes anxiety. Such biological triggers can include hypoglycemia (which is when the blood sugar level gets too low), Wilson's Syndrome, hyperthyroidism, and inner ear infections or disturbances can all cause an anxiety or panic attack. Anxiety can even be caused by infection or parasitic infestation, such as a tape worm. An unbalanced diet and poor exercise regimen can even lead to anxiety.
Stress is probably the most common cause of anxiety. Everybody experiences stress and it is a normal thing, but if you are experiencing excessive stress on a regular basis, then it is probably anxiety. Also, if you are not handling the stress in a very positive manner, then you probably have anxiety. This stress can cause depression and that is the last thing that you need.
Symptoms
If you are thinking anxiously then you can show some of these symptoms:
* Worrying a great deal about what others think of you * Living in the future and predicting the worse * Magnifying the importance of negative events * Poor concentration and focusing skills * Racing thoughts
Anxiety disorder symptoms are those physical and behavioral signs that a person is experiencing or developing anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorder is defined as the inability or fear of communicating with other human beings. The degree of GAD as a disorder is gauged by the intensity and duration of symptoms, including any problems with functioning caused by the symptoms. GAD is diagnosed if symptoms have been interfering with daily life and have been constantly present for at least six months.
Treatment
Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress. It helps one deal with a tense situation in the office, study harder for an exam, keep focused on an important speech. It's normal to worry and feel tense or scared when under pressure or facing a stressful situation. Anxiety is the body's natural response to danger, an automatic alarm that goes off when we feel threatened. But when anxiety becomes an excessive, irrational dread of everyday situations, it has become a disabling disorder.
Treatment For Anxiety Can Vary. It can be very difficult getting to grips with the problems inherent in an anxiety disorder. It is not impossible, however, to do just that and experience the full joy of living again. The procedures involved in the treatment of anxiety can largely depend on the type of disorder present and the perceived cause of the disorder.
However, one of the most popular and accepted theories is that anxiety disorders are caused by a buildup of stress as a result of a series of stressful events in a person's life that has not been properly managed. In some cases, anxiety disorders or anxiety symptoms are caused by other medical conditions, including asthma, which can cause a person to suffer from a panic attack as a result of feeling breathless.
