Rheumatoid arthritis is basically called Aama-vaata in Sanskrit, and it means that it generally occurs when vaata (one of the three constituents that govern the physico-chemical and physiological activities of the body) mingles aama in the body. While this improper diet is the most imperative cause, other causes include exhaustion, frequent sex, deep worry, and emotional disturbances. Improper fat metabolism process in the digestive system thus creates a variety of aama, which generally shows a special empathy for the bones and joints. Since the membrane lining the colon is closely connected with the nutrition of cartilage and bone, this present aama swiftly reaches its chosen location and places itself. The immune system then sweeps in to attack, and the disease is created. If allowed to continue being unchecked, the inflammation then becomes chronic and destroys the joint, which then causes nearby muscles to shrink. All this happens just because of undigested material in the colon.Because there is much aama goes into arthritic joints, any dosha accumulation in the digestive tract always tends to arrival to the joints and aggravate the condition again. Health can now return to the joint only if aama is treated. Effective management of arthritis in fact involves immediate elimination of these doshas during exacerbation, and steady elimination of deep aama during remission.
SELF-HELP GUIDELINES & AYURVEDIC REMEDIES
The basic philosophy of therapy for rheumatoid arthritis is as follows:
•Food taken during an exacerbation should be light, little and liquid. Weak ginger tea taken with the lemon and honey, if be necessary, is best when your tongue is sturdily coated. Then take rice, gruel, and green gram soup. Continue just it for at least a week before going back to your normal diet.
•The intake of bitter and pungent substances badically controls vaata and relieves aama. •Guggulu is best useful during remission to remove old, adherent aama from the dhaatus (basic body structures which perform some specific actions). The best varieties present here are yogaraaja guggulu and mahaayogaraaja guggulu. Both these contain more than two dozen pungent herbs for improving digestion, but mahaayogaraaja guggulu also has minerals in it for a superior rejuvenating effect.
•Simple yoga postures and some breathing exercises promotes elimination of aama. As your health goes improve, supplement the yoga with energetic exercise. A regular exercise programme is specially important for overweight patients since weighty limbs put extra strain on muscles and joints.
ANTI-INFLAMMATORY HERBS
The Ayurvedic-Materia-Medica lists a broad range of anti-inflammatory drugs that can reduce the pain and swelling in the case of different arthritic conditions. The treatises like Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, Bhaava Prakaasa etc, all described these drugs. A well number of scientific inquiries have been made for evaluating these anti-inflammatory activity of these medicinal plants by several researchers.
