It is not just vanity that makes people seek cosmetic dentistry. They might have more valid reasons such as yellowing or discolored teeth which makes their smile look very unattractive. As a result these people might not smile as much as they should and they lose their self confidence. People also tend to stay away from them as they think that they are unfriendly, when in fact they are not and it is just their unattractive teeth which makes them not smile. There are a number of treatment options available through cosmetic dentistry which can be chosen to fix this problem. These treatment options include porcelain laminate veneers which are also called porcelain veneers or just veneers, as well as teeth whitening, gum lifting, tooth shaping, and braces. But there are a number of things to be considered before someone invests his money and time into Cosmetic Dentistry, such as the experience of the dentist, how updated he is with the latest cosmetic dentistry techniques, is there any proof of the results obtained from previous patients, and whether the dentist can properly explain what he is going to do and what the results are going to be. There is more than just science to cosmetic dentistry. It is an art. In certain cases it is not just one treatment method that will fix the problem, but a number of methods have to be used together. The experience the dentist has had and the training he has received is very important. The treatment option known as tooth whitening is carried out by whitening the teeth using materials based on peroxide. The end results are obtained either through the use of the at home system or the in office system of teeth whitening. But it should be kept in mind that before the process actually starts all the cavities should be filled and the gums should be healthy. The whole process does not take more than an hour in the case of the in office system which uses and high intensity light combined with hydrogen peroxide gels (35 percent). The end result is that the teeth become lighter in shade by four to six times.
The in office system of teeth whitening costs around five hundred to eleven hundred dollars. This amount increases when a laser is used. The at home system on the other hand costs around four hundred to eight hundred dollars. It is better to opt for the systems managed by dentist as there is a certain level of risk involved.
