  • Maintaining Cosmetic Dentistry Work
    By: MELANIE C

Everyone will agree that cosmetic dentistry work is extremely expensive. Since that great smile cost you a bomb, it's worthwhile going to a little extra effort to preserve the work, so that it will last for many years. If you consume excessive amounts of alcohol, this will dissolve the bonding material - that backing that 'glues' the veneer to your normal tooth. This will cause it to all be ruined a few years. Worse still, there is alcohol in many mouthwashes, so be sure you read the label on yours.

Use very gentle toothpaste; many are far too abrasive for either the veneer or the composite bonding material. Never bite on hard or sharp objects, or grind your teeth. If you grind at night, wear a special night mouthguard. Likewise, when playing contact sports, protect your teeth with a mouthguard.

It is important to brush and floss your teeth regularly. The part that is not covered by the porcelain can still decay. Decay can ruin the cosmetic work by rotting the tooth behind it. A major cause of decay is constant snacking between meals. Limit snacking and clean your teeth after meals and your cosmetic dentistry should give you many years of service.
