Many people are doomed with ugly smiles and this can be depressing for most. Replacement of tooth is the solution provided by medical science. These replacement materials are called dental implants. Dental implants are artificial replacements of naturally lost or defected teeth. They include dental bridges as well as dentures. These are small and usually fixed into the jaw bone. The fixing material used are screws made up of titanium that are used a substitute of the root of the natural tooth. Once the implant is fixed in the jaw a titanium plate is extended which helps fix the implant and gives the tooth a brand new crown. Dental Implants are as good as the original teeth and are widely used in dental prosthetics all over the world. The procedure is relatively cheap and the treatment plan varies from patient to patient and can be used for one as well as replacement of multiple teeth. The total duration of the treatment can be divided into 2 phases one in which the dental implant is fixed and the other which comprises of the placement of teeth. This whole process can take a minimum of 6weeks and a maximum of 6 months depending on the patients bone status as well as the health. Mini dental implants require an even shorter duration and are quick procedures. There is no age for undergoing dental implant surgery and old and debilitated patients can undergo the procedure as well. There are also no dietary inhibitions once the procedure has been performed and the better the health of the patient the quicker the recovery. They need daily cleaning after removal and if fixed should be cleaned regularly inside the mouth. The procedure is minimally painful and is a safe opd procedure being carried out on a regular basis. The particular type that is best suited for the patient is the preference of the surgeon. Incase of a hesitancy towards getting implants the conventional lower denture can also do the same job reasonably well. Over dentures are more like the regular dentures with slight differences. Appropriate oral hygiene has to be maintained at all times and is an instruction to all patients.
