  • Latest news on Levitra
    By: MICHAEL THOMAS

A study was conducted consisting of a double blind placebo controlled trial with about 400 men that were all taking Levitra. These men all suffered from both erectile dysfunction and high cholesterol but showed a significant improvement with their erectile dysfunction after taking Levitra.

This was the first of such studies designed to evaluate the safety of Levitra in patients with both erectile dysfunction and high cholesterol. All trial participants were taking statins to control their dyslipidemia. The results of the 12-week trial showed that men randomized to receive Levitra had significantly increased success rates of penetration and the ability to maintain an erection compared to placebo.

Many times people that suffer from high cholesterol end up suffering from erectile dysfunction too. This is why this study was so significant because most doctors are not treating erectile dysfunction and now it has been concluded that Levitra does indeed help men with serious underlying conditions.

In the most recent news concerning Levitra there is soon to be a label change that indicates that although very rare, there have been reports of very short term amnesia in men taking the drug. These are brief bouts of amnesia that generally don't last longer than one day with no other symptoms or explanations. There will be no warnings or precautions that will be part of this label change. Amnesia will be added to the list of rare reported adverse effects from taking Levitra. Bayer Pharmaceuticals and the FDA have agreed on the wording of Levitra's label change. Viagra and Cialis have not decided yet on changing their labels to reflect this.

Another study indicated that it is very possible that the Levitra pill may have the ability to offer a degree of cardiac protection. The study was published in the March issue of the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology proved that pretreatment with a clinically relevant dose of Levitra induces a protective effect against heart attack injury. It has been suggested that maybe one day PDE5 inhibitors such as Levitra might be given to patients who are at high risk for acute heart attack or prior to undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery to optimize heart protection.

This latest news regarding Levitra is very significant and indicates that there is a lot to still learn about PDE5 inhibitors and the roles that they might be able to play in health disorders in the future.
