  • Melt Away Abdominal Fat (Eat a MUFA at Every Meal)
    By: KIMBERLY CIERECH

I don't know anyone who wouldn't like a flat stomach, but like the majority of my family and friends (myself included) my muffin top stomach was taking over. With the advice of a great nutritionist and equally great advice from a Certified Physical Fitness Trainer, I have taken control of my body and have decreased my waistline as well.

The secret and really it is no secret at all is eating the right foods. And surprisingly enough, the right foods are mono-unsaturated fatty acids or as I described in the title of this article MUFA. These healthy fats can help dissolve the accumulation of abdominal fat with no other nutrient being able to do this.

It is very easy to ingest these healthy fatty acids, once you have learned exactly what they are. The first one that I use at almost every meal is olive oil or EVO as Rachel Ray likes to say. Olive oil is great for cooking but also for drizzling on salads. Olive oil contains mostly MUFA and can also lower LDL (bad cholesterol) without affecting your HDL (good cholesterol). Olive oil is very rich in antioxidants . In fact the greener the olive oil the more antioxidants it contains, so purchase extra virgin.

The next MUFA that is excellent for your health is sunflower seeds. Sunflower seeds are packed with the essential B-vitamins. They also protect your body against inflammation. Sunflower seeds contain Vitamin E and are known to curb ones appetite. They can be eaten as a snack or sprinkled in a salad.

Almonds are another great source of MUFA. They are also packed with Vitamin E and can help cut your cholesterol levels. They are a wonderful source of plant protein and can be eaten as a snack or sprinkled on your favorite flavors of yogurt.

Avocado's are packed with heart healthy MUFA. They contain the cholesterol smashing beta sitosterol that is a plant based fat. Avocado's can be eaten recipes or made into a healthy dip.

Dark Chocolate is high in antioxidants. It can be eaten in the form of cocoa powder or drizzled over fresh strawberries. Eating Dark Chocolate because of it's high antioxidant quantities can help ward off heart disease, stroke and help with diabetes and cancer.

If you would like to learn more MUFA foods and their fat dissolving qualities I have placed them on a small web site along with other simple ways to get your body in motion. This list is a very good start for someone who has been inactive and wants to start taking charge of their health. More MUFA Foods.
