- By: CHRISTOPHER PHILLIP
At the start of the present century a shock report revealed that more than 100 million Americans were obese or greatly overweight and if this trend were to continue then this problem is guaranteed to reach crisis proportions in less than a couple of decades from now.The answer to this crisis is not going to be an easy one, unless people in general comprehend the danger of being obese and overweight.
Also being overweight can increase the possibility of contracting some serious illnesses such as hypertension and arthritis for instance. Even more serious diseases are a distinct possibility and these can include cancer, diabetes, strokes and heart disease.
It has been medically proven that controlled weight-loss can help to prevent all of these diseases.
To achieve long-term results one must understand that the real goal is fat loss that will lead naturally to weightloss and body loss. Slow but sure is the name of the game.
Over the last few years there have been many quick fix weightloss treatments advertised including so-called weight-loss supplements and pills, nigh on starvation diets and many other methods that may produce temporary weight-loss but long-term are not effective.
Below are a few suggestions that followed rigorously can only lead to positive fat loss and consequently weightloss.
Skipping breakfast is also not a good idea. In fact many experts on this subject claim that it is the more important daily meal and missing it can in fact lead to weight gain.
Forget the starvation type diets, they just don't work long-term. At the beginning losing a bit of weight might seem encouraging but long-term you would just feel miserable. Skipping meals is just not a good idea, you need good food to provide you with the natural energy you need.
Losing weight by starvation will allow some fat loss but will also deprive the body of important tissue like muscle for instance. Another important point is that rapid weight loss efforts can in the long-term lead to binge eating habits that will put flab in the places that you least want to on your body.
Don't get caught up in the hype of big weight losses in ridiculously short periods of time, it rarely happens. You choose your own moderate long-term weight-loss and fat loss goals.
Instead of the traditional three big meals a day, eat smaller meals more frequently say five or six times a day. This can in fact help to stop you over eating and also speed up your metabolism thus making calories burn off more rapidly.
It is very important to control your sugar intake.
Think you're meals out in advance incorporating a pasta, rice and bread to provide your body with the carbohydrates that it needs. Also include the lean meat is and other protein rich recipes.
Allow yourself only the odd treat of sweet items such as cakes and pastries. However you can eat as much fresh fruit and vegetables as you wish.
Keep an eye on how much fat you ingest but do not blame fat for your being over weight. In fact you do need some fat to keep your body levels stable. Some fat is very good for you and these include canola oil, peanuts and olive oil. Oily fish can allegedly be good for your heart, such as mackerel, salmon and tuna which contain that beneficial ingredient Omega3.
Make sure you drink loads of water as this is really good for you, for one thing it fills your stomach and alleviates hunger pains. It is also a great aid to a burning flat and hydrating body cells.
Try leaving the car at home and walking briskly or jogging as often as possible. Turn your basic daily chores into exercise routines giving each muscle a little more work to do. A simple example, if your home has stairs use them as an exercise machine after all each stair that you climb entails you lifting your full body weight, that's exercise.
This is probably the most important item. Most dieters hate the word exercise. They immediately conjure up a heavy exercise sessions in the local gym which of course is fine if you can make it enjoyable. If it seems like torture and doesn't appeal to you then you must find other forms of exercise.
Incorporating the above tips over a period of time will not achieve fantastic weight-loss results BUT if you stick to them your long-term weight-loss will be permanent. And even more importantly it will be a painless.
