  • The Practice of Acupuncture
    By: ALI MACK

The practice of acupuncture is a traditional alternative healthy treatment that originated in China.

During the treatment of acupuncture any of the following can be used in a session. This session might involve needles, moxibustion, cupping, thermal methods, magnets, qwa-sha, scraping techniques, acupatches, herbal poultices, ion cord linking, acupuncture devices with wires and hot and cold packs. It is not common for all of these to be used in any one treatment, the most common in a treatment of acupuncture is needles and herbal treatments.

It must be noted that prior to any actual acupuncture treatment, it is usual for a thorough examination of the patient is undertaken. The diagnostic techniques include observation and this focuses on face and facial features. Analysis of the tongue, listening to the sounds of the body and noting the body smell of the patient.

Inquiring, palpitation, pulses diagnosis are similar to what a GP would do and involves checking for fever, pain and feeling the body for anything out of the ordinary.

The practice of acupuncture involves fine filaform needles being inserted into pressure points on the body, these pressure points are where the meridian channels make contact with the skin.

These meridians are rivers of Qi (energy force) racing through the body. The positioning of the needles depend solely on what ailment is being treated, namely where in the body it has been diagnosed that the Qi is disrupted.

When acupuncture needles are inserted they are stimulating the area of the meridian where the Qi is blocked. As well as acupuncture traditional Chinese medicine is often prescribed as part of the treatment or herbal essences are used in the room.

Although some of us may see acupuncture as somewhat barbaric,it is indeed more firmly established and much older than any of the Western style medical treatments and has had a lot more development and study than any medical treatment in existence.

The practice of acupuncture is seen as treatment that regulates and balances the energy force within the body. Acupuncture has helped many people and they have been able to avoid using medications or having invasive surgeries. Like many alternative medicines, though, acupuncture is not going to be able to cure everything and it should be used carefully and the advice of the acupuncture practitioner should always be followed.

Because it is so highly recognized by traditional medicine, in many cases you can consult with your physician about acupuncture they may even be able to suggest a good practitioner for you to use.
