- Using Neem to Treat Psoriasis
- By: MANNY LEGER
Neem oil is likely the best product available for treating psoriasis. Topical treatments of neem moisturizes and protects the skin while healing the irritation, scaling and sores. Taking neem leaf orally, along with topical treatment of neem extracts and neem seed oil, seem to be at least as effective as more well known treatments such as coal tar and cortisone in treating psoriasis. Coal tar products smell very bad and are messy to use, and cortisone can make the skin thin with normal use. Neem does not do any of this.Applying neem to the skin is easy and inexpensive. Neem normally comes in a cream or oil, which helps to lubricate the skin. The smell is not unpleasant, and it will not stain your clothing. Neem is also antibacterial and anti-viral, therefore it helps prevent infections. There is no problem with using neem products for extended periods of time, so daily use is perfectly fine.
Salicylate is often used to treat psoriasis, but it is being found to have dangerous side effects if it gets absorbed into one's system (like through an open wound or sores). Here again, neem is the obvious choice for anyone worried about these kind of potentially harmful treatments.
Here is a popular way of using neem based products to treat psoriasis-
1. Add a few drops of to warm bath water and soak
2. Wash the skin with a gentle neem soap
3. Pat dry and apply neem lotion to the irritated areas
4. Taking neem capsules often produces quicker results.
There is no cure for psoriasis, but regular treatment can help relieve the symptoms it creates. The key is to find a regimen that works for you, and to stick with it.
Good health to you.
