- What's In Your Water, May Scare You to Death

The best home water purifier systems deliver contaminant free water that has trace minerals and a balanced pH level. Not every home purifier water system can do that. Surprisingly, the most expensive systems are not the best.Over the last few years, we have seen many new stories concerning the hazards of tap water. We have also learned that our reliance on bottled water is damaging the environment. The solution to both problems is an in home water purifier.
What’s in the water? Drugs, hormones, chlorine, lead, industrial pollutants, chlorine by-products, tiny organisms known as cysts and around 2000 different cancer causing chemicals. Believe it or not, there is a home purifier water system that can reduce the level of these contaminants by 99.99%.
We are lucky in this country, because we know that drinking our tap water will not usually make us immediately ill. In order to insure public safety, most treatment facilities use chlorine to “disinfect” the water. The first job that an in-home water purifier must do is remove chlorine.
Why? Well, number one, it doesn’t taste good. It doesn’t smell good, either. But, worse is the fact that people with chlorinated water that do not use a home purifier water system have an increased incidence of several different types of cancer, including breast and bladder cancer. Actually, it is believed that showering in chlorinated water is worse than drinking it, so “whole” home water purifier systems are become increasingly popular. The number of available shower head filters is growing, as well.
There is a detectable level of chloroform gas in many homes around the country. The cause is, you may have guessed it, showering in unfiltered chlorinated water. When chlorine interacts with biological (living) material, chloroform gas is formed as a by-product. A shower filter can help, but in order to be 100% safe, you really need a whole home water purifier. Drugs and hormones are in the water because of the way that we recycle water. Everything that goes down the drain eventually ends up in the water supply. So, by using a home purifier water system, you are not only helping yourself, but everyone else. If we all used a home water purifier, the quality of untreated tap water would likely improve. It would take many years to see a difference, of course, but the treatment facilities alone are just not able to tackle the job.
Some companies are advertising RO or reverse osmosis, saying it’s the latest technology in water filtration and a good choice for a home purifier water system. The truth is that RO has been around for fifty years. The systems deliver de-mineralized water, rather than a “balanced” mineral content.
Ion exchange filters are actually newer technology and they balance the mineral and pH levels. RO is also very expensive. The starting price for an RO home water purifier is $10,000. That’s not a typo…ten thousand dollars.
You can get an excellent whole home purifier water system for less than a thousand. You can get shower filters for around $60 and kitchen units for even less. Just be sure to check out the product performance data sheet, before you buy.
Make sure that you are getting what you pay for. Today, everyone needs a home water purifier, but we don’t need to pay a fortune.
