  • Stop Smoking Programs
    By: TOMMY THOMPSON

The days when anyone could pretend that smoking was not harmful to the body are long gone, but the struggle of many smokers is very present and real. There are many stop smoking programs to choose from and this may be confusing to those struggling to quit. No one program will work for everyone.

One of the methods used in stop smoking programs is hypnosis. Hypnosis to stop smoking has many advantages. It requires no drugs or tobacco substitutes and can be very effective. It is accepted by the medical world as a legitimate tool for smoking cessation. The main two drawbacks are that repeat sessions may be needed and that not everyone can be hypnotized.

To aid in your desire to stop smoking you can get a prescription medication from your doctor. These medications need physician follow up and tend to be a bit costly. As with other prescription drugs, these medications have been know to have negative side effects. People with certain medical conditions should not take these medications. The risk of smoking versus the risk of the medication must be carefully weighted.

Others may prefer to use an herbal remedy to stop smoking. There are several different herbs and combinations used to help smokers quit and some experimenting may be needed to find the product that works for any one individual. One type is an herb called lobelia which seems to mock the effect of nicotine and helps transition from smoking to smoke free.

There are a number of stop smoking programs that you can use when you are thinking of quitting smoking that use some form of acupuncture. The traditional method involves small, painless needles which claim to block the desired to smoke a cigarette. Alternatively you can have a surgical staple inserted in the air while you are trying to quit.

In order to quit, it is important to find a stop smoking program that includes counseling and other forms of psychological support. Programs vary in the amount of support they provide. The psychological addiction will last much longer than the physical need for tobacco (which passes in a few days), and so counseling is a vital part of any program.

The health hazards of smoking are no secret, but smokers still find it quite difficult to quit. The vast array of stop smoking programs available can complicate matters, making it difficult to decide which program will work best for each individual smoker. Each smoker requires a program that best suits his or her individual needs. Some use hypnosis to stop smoking, some people choose to use an herbal remedy to stop smoking. Different herbs and mixtures of herbs may help people quit. The herb lobelia may mimic nicotine and help wean a smoker off cigarettes in the same way that a patch does.
